The start of something going wrong....

Post traumatic stress disorder entered our lives unknowingly around October 1, 2011. Nathanael had gone to meet some friends at Legacy Place in Dedham. Hung out for awhile with his friends called home at 5:30 pm hoping to catch a ride home but to his dismay his Dad or I were not able to pick him up. We agreed he would take the bus. By 8:30 Nathanael was not home yet, I wasn't too concerned a bit angry because he has missed his curfew time which was becoming a regular event in our house since Nathanael had reached the ripe old age of 15. Typical teenage behavior, knows everything, can do anything and will do just about anything to push those famous buttons. About 9:10 pm Nathanael called his Dad's cell phone saying he was lost in Dedham. So Dad put him on speaker phone asked Nathanael about street signs, Nathanael was able to tell Dad what street he was on and Dad was on his way. When Dad was driving to pick him up Nathanael starting complaining he wasn't feeling well. Dad told him to sit down, he did, Nathanael said he wanted to lie down, Dad said no just stay sitting I'm almost there. By the time Dad got there which was approximately 8 minutes later Nathanael was out cold on the street. Dad could not bring him around. 911 was called and Nathanael was transported to Children's Hospital. Doctors worked on him to the point of almost interbating him because he was so unresponsive. To this day I don't really know what stopped that process but it never happened. As the night went on and Nathanael started waking up he couldn't speak, he couldn't move all he could do was wince in pain. There is nothing more frustrating or horrifying than watching your own child not being able to communicate with you and not knowing why he could not communicate with us. As the night went on Nathanael's voice started coming back but he couldn't feels his arms or legs. He had a cat scan, x-rays on every part of his body. Nothing was showing anywhere. No bruises or bleeds in the brain, no broken bones nothing. Finally when Nathanael's condition stabalized a little more an MRI was ordered. We went up stairs by the time he was ready to go in Nathanael had woken up more enough to talk and the feeling in his body was starting to come back. At 4:00am Nathanael emerged from the MRI just like a new person. He was up talking, joking having a great time for himself while dad and I were trying to get a couple minutes of sleep sitting in the waiting room. Nathanael was admitted for observation and we were sent home with a big fat "Hmmm, Don't know what, why or how. This my dear friends was the beginning of the end of a normal life we all know and love....
